The Georgia resident Dennis Kahler hit the jackpot winning the grand prize on a scratch-off ticket.
In a discussion on CorvetteForum, Kahler told that he received a letter confirming the prize he was owed: a new C8-generation Corvette valued at up to $107,000 and $250,000 in cash.
You must be thinking, what a lucky guy, right?
Well, let me tell you something; he may not be as lucky as you think.
Sure, he won the jackpot but do you know what he didn’t get? A dealership who can sell him the Corvette.
That’s right, the guy is stuck and can’t redeem his prize Corvette as the Georgia Lottery couldn’t locate even a single dealer who could supply the car!
Kahler posted a picture of his winning Corvette and Cash ticket in the C8 Corvette Owners (And Friends) Facebook group. “Just claimed this in December. Now they cannot provide a dealer that has an allotment. They just thought I could go straight in and pick out a ’21 C8. This is turning into a circus. Yes this is a true situation.” Kahler wrote.
I don’t blame Kahler; I would be pretty furious too. And to be honest, who wouldn’t? I just won a big prize, and now I’m finding out that no one is ready to supply it for me?
Why this is happening is because C8 Corvettes are sold out everywhere – yes, everywhere, which is not surprising considering the huge demand that exists for the car. But It also really makes you think; why strike a deal with Chevrolet to reserve a car in the first place when it is sold out literally everywhere? Not a good decision.
Kahler told the CorvetteForum that he already picked out what he wanted: A Rapid Blue 2LT Z51, which is worth $80,465. He would get the car, the $250,000 in cash and the $26,535 that went unused from the Corvette win budget. This guy really knows what he is going to do!
But wait, there might still be hope.
There is good news and bad news both. Let’s hear the good news first.
The Best Online Lottery was able to work out a deal with car dealership Five Star Chevrolet, so things might just work out after all!
Now the bad news…
What they did not mention was that they would charge $10,000 over the MSRP for the car, as reported by the CorvetteForum, which will just reduce Kahler’s prize budget.
And Kahler, understandably, doesn’t feel it to be the right thing.
“I used to be a general sales manager for a dealership, so I know the way things operate. I’m not giving up the money on my purchase by using them.” Kahler told CorvetteForum.
And lucky for him; Kahler succeeded in finding dealerships that would sell him the car without the markup that Five Star Chevrolet was giving him – good for him! So far, the best deal that he has been able to get is from Master Chevrolet who said that they could offer him a C8 Corvette, but there is, again, a piece of bad news.
What’s the bad news?
Master Chevrolet said that he might have to wait until the third quarter of 2021 to receive it, which is expected as ordering the latest model usually requires some wait. But it is a long, long time before he can get his hands on his car considering the fact that the car is sold out and there is a tremendous demand for them.
Lawyers are working to resolve the situation, but Kahler is hoping that publicizing this might lead to a faster solution – we hope it does!
One last good news before we get to the end; Kahler confirmed on his Facebook that he indeed received the $250,000 in prize money!
If you ask me, The Lottery needs to get things straight and starting being extra and super-duper careful before agreeing on a car without having a dealership first – it would cost them pretty severely.
Let’s hope something like this doesn’t happen to anyone else, and that Kahler gets the car he won as soon as possible!
