If you’re sick of spending a small fortune on a gym membership, which you hardly use, you may be looking for innovative, fun ways to stay fit, without forking out for a pricey gym membership. If so, simply continue reading for inspiration.

How to Stay Fit Without a Gym Membership:

1. Utilize YouTube to find new workout routines

If you like the idea of working out in the comfort and privacy of your lounge, it’s well worth searching YouTube for free workout videos. As examples, you may be interested in finding Pilates workouts which will strengthen your core and sculpt long lean limbs. Or you may be interested in searching for upbeat Zumba workouts, which are sure to get your heartbeat racing.

2. Purchase a fitness tracker

While it’s important to workout on a regular basis if your goal is to maintain your current level of fitness without an expensive gym membership, it’s important to keep active throughout each day. One way to monitor your activity levels is to purchase a fitness tracker such as a Fitbit, which will track every step which you take and every calorie which you burn.

3. Set up your own home gym

You may find that it’s more cost-effective to set up your own home gym, in your spare bedroom, rather than paying for a yearly gym membership. If money is no object you may want to purchase a spin bike, an elliptical machine, and a treadmill.

While if money is tight you may want to settle for an inexpensive stepper machine, which you can purchase for less than $50. To pump up your workout, simply carry 1kg dumbells, whilst you workout on your stepper. So if you assumed that you had to lift heavy weights in a gym, in order to tone your arms, think again.

It’s also worth purchasing a $20 medicine ball, which you can use to complete body resistance exercises which will strengthen your arms and core.

4. Join a local sports club

Most sports clubs offer memberships for a fraction of the price of your average gym membership. So if you want to maintain your fitness, have fun and make new friends, it’s well worth considering joining a local sports club.

Examples of which may include a tennis club, a football club, a surf life-saving club or a running club. You may even be interested in taking up a new hobby such as learning a martial art or learning how to stand up paddleboard!

5. Challenge yourself to train for triathlons and fun runs

One way to motivate yourself to get out of bed to workout when it’s still dark is to sign up for a fitness-related event such as a triathlon, a fun run or a half marathon. Just be warned that once you cross the finish line of your first event, you may be tempted to sign up for your second event. As when you finish your very first challenge, you’ll experience a healthy, adrenaline rush.

So, if you assumed that you had to spend hours in a gym in order to stay fit, think again! There are a variety of ways to stay fit, without stepping foot in a gym.
