Customer Stories: How Todd Lohenry of E1evation Supercharged His Alexa Ranking with InboundWriter

Owner of E1evation LLC, Todd Lohenry is a WordPress developer and social media expert who educates, equips and empowers thought leaders with tactics and tools for content management and content marketing. Currently, E1evation LLC manages more than 100 WordPress web sites on four continents.

The Challenge:

In late 2011, Todd noticed that he was not making time to employ the strategies and tactics for his own business that he was recommending to his clients. His blog, for example, a key content marketing vehicle for him, was increasingly consisting of curated content with only 30 percent of each entry being original writing. According to his own teachings, this ratio should have been the inverse with at least 70 percent of each blog post having original content in order to be recognized by Google as such. In addition, Todd was often using eye candy widgets and tools that made his posts look interesting, but didn’t do much for searchability.

The Solution:

At the beginning of 2012, Todd spoke to an SEO consultant and realized that he needed to get more “intentional” about his blog content (and his content marketing strategy in general).  With this in mind, Todd searched online for relevant content optimization resources, and found InboundWriter — a cloud-based web application and WordPress plugin designed specifically for writers to guide their content marketing and optimization efforts. The application indexes the social web in real-time to see what target audiences are reading, sharing and discussing. It then streams this intelligence into a web-based document editor or an integrated WordPress plugin, providing explicit recommendations about the language a writer should use to create the most compelling content possible. Content is scored on a scale of 1-100 with interactive feedback mechanisms providing suggestions for how to reach the optimal score and maximize findabiliy.

Results:

Upon discovering the application, Todd decided to test it for two weeks. During this period, he used InboundWriter on a daily basis, blogging 1-2 times per day, on average. At the end of the two week period, Todd noticed a remarkable improvement in his Alexa ranking. Prior to InboundWriter, his blog was ranked at roughly 35,000 (U.S.) on Alexa.com. After two weeks of using the InboundWriter plugin, his ranking improved by approximately 30%, reaching a ranking of 27,000 (U.S.). In addition, he observed an increase in calls and contact form inquiries, likely a result of his new content marketing strategy. An InboundWriter convert, Todd says: “InboundWriter has been a critical part of my content creation process.”

I too have started optimizing my content by using Inbound Writer and my Alexa ranking has show dramatic improvement. We were ranked globally at 8m and are now under 2m. Probably more importantly we were ranking about 150,000 in the UK but in six weeks have come down to about 34,000 and still dropping on a daily basis.

I have written some excellent articles with legal information (since I am a lawyer). I was surprised how much inbound writer helped me in using key words in my content and adding keywords as tags to my posts. Traffic and response has gone up as a result.

Content Marketing is perhaps one of the best ways to get a site ranking high. I am too a happy user of Inbound Writer, as it’s helping me improve on my writing. Over the past 3 months I started three websites for 3 clients. Although WordPress is great when it comes to on-site SEO, using a text analysis tool makes an even bigger impact. One of the three websites is brand new. The domain got registered in January 2012, and the first page on the site got online January 20th. Back then, it wasn’t even in Alexa’s index. Now it’s 1.8M rank, and rising each day, and whenever I make a new post, the jump is about 100.000 positions.I’ve witnessed the same rise with the Alexa ranking on the two other websites. Then, I went back to my main site, http://www.webmaxformance.com, which ranked 3M, and did some tuning up. It’s now 1.8M in just a few weeks since the tweaks. One of the sites I do redesign on, is almost 5 years old, and when I got it it was 19.M rank. Today, it’s 5.9M. All in all, good on-site SEO and solid content really does make a difference. One site outranks even the industry’s top website for a local search phrase. It actually holds positions 1, 2, 3 and 4, for search phrases that have 100-450.000 searches each month. My clients are very enthusiastic, and so am I. Inbound Writer is a great tool to have.
